Brief History of GACBT
2010 - Georgian Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (GACBT) was founded in Tbilisi, Georgia.
2014 - GACBT became a member of the European Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (EABCT)
GACBT performs postgraduate education in CBT. (GACBT professionals elaborated CBT training program, meeting the necessary criteria recommended by EABCT
GACBT training program consists of two stages:
A. General treatment skills and understanding of psychopathology ;
B. Training in CBT: Theoretical understanding of CBT model and acquisition of skills, necessary for effective CBT clinical practice.
2015 GACBT training program has been accredited by the Ministry of Labor Health and Social affairs.
In 2015 GACBT applied to EABCT for the project ‘Workshops on Psychotherapeutic Approaches for Psychiatric Disorders‘, asking for a grant for the workshops on issues, missing in the GACBT training program. The purpose of the project was to deliver appropriate trainings, for filling the gaps in GACBT educational program.
At the same time, the project was considered an excellent opportunity to establish close links between Georgian behavioral and cognitive therapists and European colleagues for further cooperation and collaboration.

After requesting to provide additional details about the target beneficiaries (DBT and ED- trainers) of our project activities, EABCT board made the positive decision and provide funding for our project, to conduct the workshops for DBT-trainers.

In holistic model;
Functional analysis;
Classical and operant models.
The main result of this workshop was the increased growing towards CBT and DBT between specialist and students.

Report of The Georgian Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy
(June, 2010 – June, 2013)
The Georgian Association of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy was established in June, 9, 2010 based on the protocol of general board meeting #1
Since July, 2010 Georgian CBT association organized regular meetings (once in a week) and the case discussions. The following cases were discussed:
CBT for Anxiety disorders ( panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder);
CBT for Pathological Gambling;
CBT for psychoses.
From November 2010 The Georgian Association of CBT started developing training modules in Georgian language. Initially program on “Introduction in CBT” was developed (The authors of the program are Begiashvili.A., Abdushelishvili.K., Badrishvili.N.)
Training titled “Introduction in CBT” was conducted for two waves of mental health specialists (psychiatrists, psychologists). The first, in March, 2011 (19 specialists were trained) and the second in December, 2012 (15 specialists were trained).
The second stage of the training titled: “CBT for depression and other anxiety disorders - panic attacks, social anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders” was conducted in November (28-30), 2012.
Seventeen participants (psychiatrists and psychologists) from the first wave attended the training.
In March (11-14), 2013 the training titled “CBT techniques in practice” was conducted for second wave of training participants. 14 members attended the training.
In May, 2012 The Association organized a general introductory meeting for various specialists and accepted new members in the association.
In August, 2012 the article titled “CBT in Georgia” was published in British magazine – CBT Today.
In December, 2012 the board of the association made decision of becoming a member of European CBT association. In January, 2013 the association established contact with the representative of EABCT – Helen McDonald as well as the representative of CBT association of Ukraine – Oleh Romanchuk, president of Ukrainian Institute of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In April, 19, 2013 Georgian CBT association re-registered the modified article.
In June, 2013 we started the series of seminars in psychiatry for psychologists.
